Digging Into Ceramics with Rob Hunter is a new monthly YouTube program that would be planned to launch in the fall of 2025. Hosted by the archaeologist, ceramics historian, and editor emeritus of the Chipstone Foundation’s annual journal Ceramics in America, each 20–30-minute monthly episode will delve into the rich and complex narratives linked to historic ceramics made or used in America. Hunter’s widely acclaimed approach to writing, teaching, curating, and lecturing introduces viewers to the often-surprising links between ceramic objects and a myriad cultural, technological, social, spiritual, political, and historical events, spanning centuries. This innovative and ambitious initiative builds upon his encyclopedic knowledge, his access to a wealth of existing visual and historical resources, and his close relationships to with a wide range of ceramic scholars, makers, and enthusiasts. Some of the programmatic content of Digging Into Ceramics with Rob Hunter then will be further developed into articles for Ceramics in America and other professional journals. This digital content also will be fully accessible on www.chipstone.org for use by scholars and makers and collectors in the years to come.
