Digging Into Ceramics with Rob Hunter is a new monthly YouTube program launching in 2026. Archaeologist, ceramics historian, and editor emeritus of the Chipstone Foundation’s annual journal Ceramics in America, Hunter hosts each 20–30-minute episode, delving into the rich and complex narratives surrounding historic ceramics made or used in America. Drawing on his widely acclaimed work as a writer, teacher, curator, and lecturer, he introduces viewers to the often-surprising connections between ceramic objects and a wide range of cultural, technological, social, spiritual, political, and historical forces spanning centuries.
This innovative and ambitious initiative draws directly on Hunter’s encyclopedic knowledge, his access to extensive visual and historical resources, and his long-standing relationships with ceramic scholars, makers, and enthusiasts. Hunter will further develop selected program content into articles for Ceramics in America and other professional journals. The digital content will also remain fully accessible on www.chipstone.org, ensuring its long-term value for scholars, makers, and collectors.
